
Public funding
- The ARC manages the National Competitive Grants Program, a significant component of Australia’s investment in research and development. Through this program, the ARC supports high-quality fundamental and applied research and research training across all disciplines.
The ARC Discovery programs fund individual researchers and projects. The ARC Linkage programs help to broker partnerships between researchers and industry, government and community organisations as well as the international community. The ARC Centres programs build research scale and focus and strengthen major research partnerships and networks.
- Developing the Australian communications and information technology sector, the Department funds a number of research initatives.
- IISR develops and implements a range of science and industry policies and business assistance programs. The Department develops and administers a range of programs and services designed to advance Australia’s innovation and technology capabilities in manufacturing, resources and service industries.
The Commercial Ready program is a competitive merit-based grant program supporting innovation and its commercialisation. The program assists small and medium sized firms to undertake R&D and commercialise the outcomes.
The Department also delivers Government funded programmes.
- This government department runs a variety of programmes, including specific research programmes for environmental concerns. It administers the highly successful Commonwealth Environment Research Facilities (CERF) programme.
- NHMRC is Australia’s peak body for supporting health and medical research. It provides funding for all areas of research relevant to human health and wellbeing.
- There are 15 Rural Research and Development Corporations covering all of the agricultural industries. The RDCs bring industry and researchers together to establish research and development strategic directions and to fund projects that provide industry with the innovation and productivity tools to compete in global markets.
